About the Workshops Professional and collegiate stadiums and arenas have been identified by the Department of Homeland Security as potential targets for terrorist activity. Since 9/11, the American sports industry has increased its efforts in screening major sporting venues at high profile events such as the World Series, Olympics, and the Super Bowl. University administrators must also take necessary steps to secure their stadiums and arenas against potential threats. The National Center for Spectator Sports Safety & Security (NCS4) in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security and with cooperation from the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) developed a Sport Event Risk Management Workshop to be delivered to NCAA institutions. The workshop is focused on building multi-agency collaboration capabilities among university security action teams. University action teams will be composed of specialists from five distinct areas: campus police, athletic department, emergency management, fire/HazMat, and emergency medical/health services. University teams will learn to agree on basic concepts relative to: planning, risk assessment, training, exercising plans, and business continuity/recovery through scenario training modules. The expectation is for these university (leadership) teams to return to their respective universities and coordinate development of a sport event security management system. The overall goal of this training program is the standardization of sport event risk management practices at NCAA Division I, II, and III intercollegiate athletic events. Training will be delivered to an estimated 5,370 participants via 80 regional workshops beginning in April 2009. Workshop Information
